Equipment
Challenge's technical capabilities in the area of surface pretreatment include:

  • A stainless steel, 5-stage washer with the following features:

    • A variable-speed conveyor,

    • Re-circulating pumps on each stage,

    • CPVC nozzles and risers,

    • Interchangeable nozzles for various customer-specific washer simulations,

    • High quality DI water availability in rinse stages,

    • Transparent vinyl curtains for easy viewing of parts through washer.
  • Infrared banks and gas oven for dry-off and curing of coatings,

  • A powder-coating booth to accommodate a 1' x 2' profile,

  • The following testing equipment for pre-qualifying recommended pretreatment chemistry and monitoring pretreatment performance for current customer:

    • A 128 cu. ft. salt-spray cabinet used for performing ASTM B117 testing,

    • A humidity chamber for performing ASTM D2247-92 testing,

    • Equipment for performing cross-hatch adhesion per ASTM-D3359-95a,

    • Impact tester for performing ASTM D2794 on organic coatings, and,

    • Conical Mandrel Bend Apparatus for performing ASTM D522-93a on organic coatings.
